Quick answer: Plan accessible travel in Seoul as a complete chain: arrival assistance, transport, the street approach, the entrance, the room or attraction, and a usable toilet. A listing marked “accessible” is a useful lead, but the details must match your own requirements. This is a planning guide, not a route inspection or a guarantee of access throughout Korea.

Write down the details that decide whether a place works

You know your needs best. Prepare a short message with the information a venue needs to give a concrete answer. For mobility equipment, include its dimensions, combined user-and-device weight where relevant to lifts or vehicles, and whether you will remain seated during transport. State whether you need a route with no steps, can manage a particular walking distance, or need somewhere to rest.

If useful, add your preferred communication method, lighting or noise considerations and assistance requirements. Share relevant practical information rather than sending unnecessary medical records. Ask staff before providing documents required for a specific service, and use its official channel.

Start with Seoul Danurim, then confirm the exact facility

The Seoul Danurim tourism website lets you search for facilities such as accessible entrances and toilets, and filter information for different access needs. Read the individual descriptions and photographs rather than relying only on an icon. Its contact page is a useful starting point for planning questions.

When an entry is old or vague, ask the venue for recent photographs and measurements. A photograph of a ramp does not show the entire route, the slope, the door width or whether the entrance will be unlocked during your visit.

Separate airport assistance from your onward transfer

Incheon Airport's mobility assistance page describes terminal wheelchair and electric-vehicle services and recommends checking airline arrangements separately. It states that its listed transportation service does not include baggage handling. Confirm the assistance meeting point, terminal, handover arrangements and operating availability before travel.

Visit Seoul's accessible travel page describes Danurim's pre-booked airport minivan service for wheelchair users, with a wheelchair user required on board. Check the current Danurim booking notice and obtain confirmation for your trip; a published reservation opening is not proof of a vehicle being available.

For any vehicle, ask about the lift or ramp limits, wheelchair position and securement, accompanying passengers and luggage. A “jumbo” taxi or a van that carries a folded wheelchair does not necessarily allow travel while seated in it.

Check every level of a subway journey

Danurim's transport guide explains that street access and platform access may use different lifts and advises checking departure, interchange and arrival stations. Use that as a planning method, not live lift-status information. Some details on that page refer to older years; this article does not reproduce its historical fleet counts, fares or waiting-time estimates.

  1. Identify the usable street entrance and the path from your accommodation to it.
  2. Check the route through the gates to the correct platform and direction.
  3. Check each interchange, including any change of level or long corridor.
  4. Confirm the destination exit and the street route to the actual entrance.

Ask station staff about current lift operation and boarding assistance where needed. If a route cannot be confirmed, choose a different station or a pre-arranged transport option. Leave room in your itinerary to change plans instead of relying on a tight connection. Our Korean address guide helps distinguish a building pin from its usable entrance.

Ask accommodation for measurements, not a label

Before a non-refundable booking, request written answers for the exact room category:

Send a simple checklist and ask for photographs of any uncertain feature. Keep the response with your booking. Use our Seoul neighborhood comparison for location ideas; it is not a list of inspected accessible rooms.

Equipment rental needs advance confirmation

Danurim's assistive-device rules, checked on October 12, 2026, list items including manual and shower wheelchairs, ramps and shower chairs. The published application window runs from two months to 14 days before rental, with a listed rental period of 3–7 days and a deposit that depends on the item. Availability and approval are required.

Confirm fit, delivery and return arrangements, holiday handling and permitted use outside Seoul before building your trip around a loan. Do not assume an unfamiliar rented device will meet your needs; ask the provider for its specifications and instructions.

Access also includes communication and sensory needs

MMCA Seoul publishes information about Braille and audio wayfinding and written communication assistance. These are specific facility descriptions, not a promise that every exhibition has audio description, English captions or interpretation in your sign language.

Ask about your preferred language and format, quieter visit periods, seating, re-entry, flashing effects and any booking needed for assistance. Choose one priority attraction and a nearby fallback. Check the toilet layout as carefully as the entrance, using our toilet planning guide as a starting point.

A message you can adapt before booking

I plan to visit on [date]. I need [specific features]. My mobility device measures [width × length] and [other relevant details]. Could you confirm the entrance route, toilet facilities and any advance arrangements? Please send current photos or measurements for the features listed. What alternative is available if the lift or equipment is out of service?

Families using strollers can also read our baby and toddler travel guide. Different travelers need different details; confirmation should always match the person making the trip.
