Choose a session length and confirm the return
Quick answer: Download the official Seoul Bike app, use its foreigner or non-member purchase path, inspect the bicycle, scan its QR code and finish at a valid Ttareungi station. Your ride is not over until the app confirms the return.
Seoul’s official fare page, checked on 22 October 2026, lists one-day passes at ₩1,000 for a 60-minute session, ₩2,000 for 120 minutes and ₩3,000 for 180 minutes. The minutes are the maximum time for each rental session, not the total amount of cycling permitted across the whole day.
A one-day pass starts when you first rent and remains valid until the same time the following day. With a 60- or 120-minute pass, the official instructions say you may return within the session limit and rent again without an extra-time charge. Recheck the current Seoul Bike fare table before paying because products and payment methods can change.
Use the official app’s foreigner path
The Korea Tourism Organization’s Ttareungi instructions direct visitors to download the Seoul Bike app, choose “Foreigner,” buy a voucher and scan the bicycle’s QR code.
A translated page or installed app does not prove your card will be accepted. Complete the purchase before walking to a distant station, keep another payment method available and do not treat a pending card notification as an issued pass. If the app changes, follow the current on-screen steps rather than an old screenshot.
- Install the official Seoul Bike app from your phone’s app store.
- Select the foreigner or non-member route shown in the current version.
- Buy the pass that matches your planned uninterrupted ride.
- Use the live map to choose a station with a bicycle.
- Check the bicycle before scanning the QR code.
You need a working data connection for the app and return confirmation. For connectivity choices, see our Korea SIM, eSIM and pocket Wi-Fi guide. A data eSIM does not automatically supply Korean SMS or identity verification; those are separate questions covered in our phone-number and verification guide.
Inspect the bike before unlocking it
Before a Seoul Bike ride, check the brakes, tires, saddle, chain area, lights and any visible damage while the bicycle is still at the station.
If something looks unsafe, choose another bicycle and use the official report function when available. Adjust the saddle while stationary and plan your own helmet rather than assuming one will be available with the bike. Seoul’s safety guidance recommends a helmet, bike lanes, lights at night and keeping phones out of use while riding.
The generated image above shows a helmet as a safety reminder, not a Ttareungi rental inclusion. No current citywide helmet-rental service was verified for this guide.
Keep pass validity and ride time separate
Seoul’s one-day pass can cover repeated rentals, but each individual ride still has its own 60-, 120- or 180-minute limit.
| Pass shown by Seoul | One session | Best planning use |
|---|---|---|
| General one-day pass | 60 minutes | Short neighborhood rides with planned returns |
| Premium one-day pass | 120 minutes | A longer ride with time to find a return station |
| 3-hour one-day pass | 180 minutes | A deliberately planned long session, not three days of access |
The official page lists an additional charge of ₩200 per five minutes after the 60- or 120-minute base session and a maximum additional charge of ₩30,000. It does not make a late return safe or acceptable. If you cannot return the bike, contact the operating center shown in the app or on the official page immediately rather than waiting for the timer to run.
End only at a valid station and read the confirmation
A Ttareungi bicycle must be secured at a valid Seoul Bike return location using the method shown by the current app and bicycle lock.
Do not leave it beside a full rack, ordinary bicycle stand, subway entrance or accommodation. After locking, wait for the return confirmation and keep a screenshot until the rental disappears from your active rides. If confirmation does not arrive, stay with the bicycle and contact support while you can still identify the bike and station.
The Seoul page says bicycles can be rented and returned across Ttareungi stations, so you do not normally need to return to your starting point. Availability is live: a map pin does not guarantee an empty return place when you arrive.
Choose a short, separated route for your first ride
For a first Seoul ride, a short section with a separated bicycle path is easier than treating Ttareungi as a door-to-door substitute for the subway.
KTO’s bicycle guidance says riders should keep right on bicycle paths, walk the bicycle across a crosswalk and avoid riding under the influence. It also says that where no bicycle path exists, riders generally use the rightmost edge of the vehicle road, subject to signs and conditions. This is not a route audit; construction and lane closures can make a saved route unsuitable.
- Check rain, heat, wind and air quality before unlocking.
- Avoid learning the system during crowded commute periods.
- Keep both hands available and stop before using your phone.
- Leave a return-time buffer instead of reaching the limit far from a station.
- Use another mode if you are not comfortable sharing space with traffic.

Seoul Bike visitor questions
These answers distinguish a purchased pass from a completed rental and return.
Do I need a Korean phone number?
The official visitor flow provides a foreigner path, but the current app, payment and data requirements still need to work on your device. Do not infer SMS or identity capability from a data plan.
Does a one-day pass mean one continuous day-long ride?
No. The pass validity and each rental session are different. Choose 60, 120 or 180 minutes and return within that session.
Can I leave the bicycle next to a full station?
No. Follow the current app’s valid return process and wait for confirmation. Contact support if you cannot complete it.
Is a helmet included?
No current citywide helmet inclusion was verified. Plan your safety equipment before renting.
Can a child use the same tourist process?
Age, guardian consent and family-pass conditions are separate from adult non-member purchase. Check the current official family-pass instructions before allowing a child to ride.
